No. It is a task light made for close-up use, so it lights a small area well but will not brighten a whole room. Use it alongside your ceiling light or lamps.
Sit in bed as you would to read, then mark a spot just above and to the side of your shoulder, clear of the headboard edge. Fitting it there lets the head reach your book without the arm crossing your pillow.
Not at all. The same close, contained light suits crosswords, knitting, sketching or a tablet, and it is handy for finding something on the bedside table at night without switching on the main light.
It tends to work well. Against white or neutral paint the fitting reads as a small graphic accent, much like a black picture frame or door handle. Repeating black elsewhere in the room helps it look deliberate.
We recommend that any wall light connected to the mains is installed by a qualified electrician. If there is no existing light point by your bed, they can also advise on the neatest way to add one.
Dark finishes show dust and fingerprints more readily, so a quick wipe with a soft, dry microfibre cloth every so often keeps it looking sharp. Switch the light off first, and avoid polish, sprays and abrasive cleaners.
